Last Sunday, at the First Annual Edmonton Afrofest, I wore a yellow t-shirt not for style but for a cause. In my country Congo (DRC) there is a mythology that symbolizes yellow as wealth, and the greatest wealth Congo has, is its women. Unfortunately, according to the UN and my family that still lives in the region, Congolese society has suffered for over 20 years. So because of various conflicts it has set back the country’s woman economically and socially.
Today, I am glad to participate in #YellowSunday a movement that is empowering the Congolese women to become Nurses, by sponsoring their training.
So, I am inviting you to please join this great movement to bring an awareness by;
1.) Wearing something yellow. 2.) Take a picture of the outfit then upload it on any social media using the hashtag #YellowSunday then challenge others to do the same. Lastly, mark your calendar to donate $10 on Sunday June 18, 2017 at Yellow Sunday 2017 and find out more information here
P.S. To all my Congolese people bring your sapologie A game!!! and tell a friend to tell a friend. Lets us be doers for our sisters, aunties and mothers back home.
Stay tuned for my in depth experience at the Afrofest. Pictures and video.
