3 years ago, I became more interested in attending any event that promotes African culture especially through art, entertainment and education as a reminder of my African roots. Within my city, I don’t see many representations of Africa throughout the year. So when I heard about the First Annual AfroFest that will happen on June 3-4, I was excited and curious about how their promo video shoot would go.Once I arrived at the video shoot location, It didn’t seem like a behind scene thing. There was so much energy and almost felt like an actual event with over 40 people plus by-passers that stopped by and joined in. Although it was raining, it didn’t stop them! I tried not to laugh too much while I was filming because of the cool and joyful dance movements.
I was glad to see people of all ages coming together representing with flags from different regions of Africa with beautiful cultural attire.I can’t wait for the actual festival! It will include a parade, live entertainment, African cultural dishes, poetry, fashion and an exhibition of a variety of vendors. For now, please take a look on some behind scenes photo and video. I hope to see you there in June!Cheers to Sarah, Blen “Billy”, Ethiopia and Lynnel for organizing everything! For more AfroFestYeg information and updates! Click here @afrofestyeg (FB, IG, Snapchat)
